About this Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how Phone World Ltd uses cookies and similar storage or access technologies on PhoneWorld.co. It should be read with our Privacy Policy, which explains how personal information is used and how to exercise data-protection rights.

What cookies and similar technologies are

A cookie is a small text file stored on a browser or device. Similar technologies include local storage, pixels, tags, software development kits and other tools that store information on, or access information from, a user's device. They can operate for one browsing session or remain for a stated period.

Some technologies are set by Phone World and others are set by third parties providing services such as payment, security, analytics, video, maps, reviews or advertising. The live cookie settings panel must identify the provider where a third party is involved.

The rules that apply

UK law generally requires clear and comprehensive information and consent before a website stores or accesses information on a user's device, unless an exception applies. Consent must be freely given, specific, informed and shown by a clear positive action. Continuing to browse, silence, inactivity or a pre-ticked choice is not treated as consent.

Limited exceptions may apply where the technology is used solely to transmit a communication, is strictly necessary for a service the user requested, is used solely for qualifying statistical purposes, or is used solely to improve or adapt appearance or functionality to the user's preference. The statistical and appearance exceptions have additional conditions, including clear information and a simple way to object. Phone World will rely on an exception only where the technology and its configuration meet all applicable conditions.

Types of technology we may use

Category

Purpose

Control

Strictly necessary

Operate core website functions requested by the user, such as security, sign-in, basket, checkout, payment routing, load balancing, fraud prevention and remembering the cookie choice.

Used without consent only where the legal exception applies.

Preferences and functionality

Remember choices such as language, currency, display or account preferences and provide requested functionality.

Consent, or a qualifying appearance/functionality exception with clear information and an easy objection.

Statistics and analytics

Measure visits, page performance, errors and aggregated use so we can understand and improve the service.

Consent, or a qualifying sole-purpose statistical exception with clear information and an easy objection.

Marketing and advertising

Measure campaigns, build audiences, personalise advertising or track activity across websites or services.

Prior consent. These technologies remain off unless the user makes the relevant choice.

Embedded and third-party content

Provide maps, videos, reviews, social-media features, chat or other third-party content that may store or access device information.

Consent unless the specific technology is exempt; the third party must be identified.

The live cookie schedule

The Manage Cookie Settings panel forms part of this Policy. It should show the current name of each cookie or similar technology, its provider, purpose, category, whether it is first-party or third-party, and how long it lasts. Because the website and its providers can change, the live schedule is the authoritative list of technologies currently configured on PhoneWorld.co.

Phone World will review the live schedule after material website changes and at reasonable intervals. A technology must not be described as strictly necessary merely because it is useful. If it is used for a secondary purpose, the correct consent or other lawful permission is required.

Your choices

When a choice is required, the cookie banner or settings panel will let you accept all optional technologies, reject non-essential technologies or manage categories. Optional technologies should not run before the required choice is made. Rejecting them must be as straightforward as accepting them.

You can change or withdraw consent at any time by using the Manage Cookie Settings link displayed in the website footer. A changed choice applies from that point; it does not make earlier lawful use unlawful. The site may place a small essential record of the choice so it can be respected.

Where Phone World relies on the statistical or appearance/functionality exception, the settings panel will provide a simple way to object. We will respect that objection without requiring consent withdrawal for a technology that was not based on consent.

Third-party services

A third party may receive information when its content or technology is enabled. Its own privacy and cookie information may also apply. The live schedule should name each third party so you can understand the consequences of enabling it. Phone World does not authorise a third party to use information for unrelated purposes merely because its technology appears on our website.

Browser and device controls

Most browsers allow you to view, block or delete cookies. Device or browser controls operate separately from the Phone World settings panel and may remove the cookie that remembers your choice. Blocking essential technologies can prevent sign-in, basket, checkout, security or other requested functions from working correctly.

Browser controls alone do not necessarily block every similar technology, so use the Phone World settings panel as well. Instructions are normally available in the browser or device help menu.

How long technologies last

Session technologies usually expire when the browser session ends. Persistent technologies remain for the period shown in the live schedule unless they are deleted earlier. We will not set a duration longer than reasonably necessary for the stated purpose and will periodically renew consent where required.

Changes and contact

We may update this Policy and the live schedule when technology, providers or law changes. The latest date will be shown above. For a question about cookies or a choice that is not working, use the Contact Us page, call 01582 671721 or write to Phone World Ltd at Phone World, 1B West Street, Dunstable, England, LU6 1SL.
